How We Picked the Top Coworking Spaces in Penang
When choosing the best coworking space, you need to consider the overall atmosphere and amenities so you can have a comfortable working experience. To do that, we used the following criteria during our research:
1. Common Ground
Prices vary depending on membership/seat
Criteria | Ratings |
Amenities | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Environment | ★★★★★ (5/5) |

What is so impressive about Common Ground that makes it one of our top coworking spaces in Penang? We love the vibrant atmosphere inside!
For us, the office environment helps with productivity because it isn’t gloomy. It’s comfortable and relaxing but not too much to make you want to sleep.
There are many amenities as well, which we particularly looked for. It’s just like an office rental with a stable WiFi connection, printers, and copiers.
But some of us want the coffee shop atmosphere. No worries because this coworking space has an in-house cafe! We were pretty surprised upon seeing it and shocked at how good the coffee was!
We like the facilities there, too. You can set up your meetings because there are discussion rooms, board rooms, and event spaces.
Plus, Common Ground Penang has staff on duty if you encounter any problems. It just feels premium, right?

But premium also comes with a high price. A hot desk starts at RM499 a month, which is higher than other Penang coworking spaces.
There’s a day pass, though, perfect for freelancers at RM50 per day. We also like that they offer a virtual office in Penang at RM80 a month for remote workers who need a professional business address (no more using your home address!).
It’s also nice that it’s located conveniently near restaurants, banks, and hospitals. It makes it feel just like a work office, but more relaxing.
We were just disappointed that it’s not available on weekends and closes quite early than other coworking spaces at 6:00 PM. That’s not convenient for freelancers.
But if you travel a lot for work or looking for a coworking space near you, Common Ground has multiple locations in Malaysia! There are six in Kuala Lumpur alone!

Great place for networking
“Having our Enhance Academy office at the EGH allowed us access to many of the factories around Batu Kawan(BK). Great place for networking and getting to know the community situated in and around BK. Many thanks to Shaun for all his help.“ — David Lim
Very friendly and helpful
“One thing i like about EGH is their staff who are always very friendly and helpful. Usually most people will think of the environment or the interior design of a co-work space when giving feedbacks. But i truly like to give credits to their staff, especially head of EGH, Shaun, who is always friendly and taking initiative in building relationship with tenants, and share with us news & updates that is beneficial for new start-ups.
Other than the people here who are truly the asset of the company, the entire co-working space does deliver the quality of a comfortable, clean, modern design workspace. Another plus point would be the free gym, library, cafes facilities that is right inside The Ship Campus. We can always move around within the Ship Campus when we wanted to have a different space to work in. Kind of fun to work in the small hut in the library though.” — Jess Ng

Masco Co-working Space in Penang is one of our top choices. We have various reasons we listed upon checking it out.
First, it has a vibrant atmosphere. It feels like a start-up office because the space is big, colourful and doesn’t feel gloomy unlike traditional office rentals.
There are various rooms and a game area if you need to unwind. But an issue we found is that it can sometimes be loud and hard to concentrate, even with the private rooms which are close to the play zone.
On a good note, we enjoyed the pantry area. There’s a fridge full of drinks, a coffee machine, and various snacks for your break time.
Second, it’s in a highly accessible area. Masco Co-working Space is actually inside Prangin Mall.
There are lots of shops and restaurants you can go to for errands at the end of your workday. It’s easy to commute there as well because of the many transportation options.
Once you’re inside the coworking space, there’s no problem looking for an available desk because there are many choices. It occupies two floors, after all.
— Media from masco_coworking
Third, it has a bunch of amenities, so you can get your money’s worth! Even if you only purchase the day pass, you can still access the printer service and call room.
Additionally, we were surprised at the stable WiFi. It’s one of the fastest we had during our research!
Also, Masco Co-working Space in Penang is one of the few that closes late (up to 10:00 PM!) and is open on weekends. It’s great for freelancers or remote workers because you can work on your own time.
But if you get distracted easily, we don’t think this is a good fit for you. Although the space is vibrant, there’s too much going on with the design that can easily divert your attention elsewhere, like some of us did.
Pros
- Conveniently located
- Closes late at night
- Open on weekends
- Offers lots of amenities
- Has fast internet
- Has many available desks
Cons
- Can be loud due to the game area
- Not for the easily distracted
Great amenities
“It’s a fantastic work place. Open till 10pm, free snack, game room, spacious and beautiful designed, good Internet, good desks and chair. My favourite in Penang” – Giang Cao, Google Reviews
Offers good value for money
“I spent about a week at MSOGO, and it is honestly the best coworking space I have ever been to. It’s huge, and has a laid back and creative vibe which allows you get get work done.
The internet is fast and reliable, it is very reasonably priced, and has opening hours of 10am-10pm, which is a lot more convenient than others which close at 6pm. The staff are very helpful and friendly too.
If I’m ever back in Penang I’ll be sure to return to MSOGO, and recommend it to everyone!!” – Skyler B, Google Reviews

A conveniently located coworking space in Penang is Settlements. It’s in Livingston Tower and has a great view of Georgetown if you work near the windows.
One of the things we like is how spacious and bright the space felt. It’s possibly due to the big windows letting the sunlight in, but there are blinds you can pull down if you don’t like that, or if it gets blindingly hot.
Furthermore, it didn’t feel cramped because of the open area layout. But the downside is you can hear all the noise, which we found distracting.
There’s also a lack of privacy because there are no other covered areas besides private rooms. Some of us who prefer working alone found this to be a problem.
— Media from settlementsworkspace
On the positive side, there are extra benefits because Settlements is in Livingston Tower. You can access the gym (it’s small, but it’s fine) before starting your work!
In addition to that, we like the competitive rates here. It’s only RM25 per day for a hot desk or RM99 for five days—we recommend this if you’re staying in Penang short term.
Furthermore, we were glad we could use it even after work hours and on weekends, considering their reception isn’t available on those days. You get an access card, though, to enter the facility.
Settlements is also a good option for a virtual office in Penang for only RM50 a month. That’s a pretty reasonable rate when we compared it to other coworking spaces we went to.
Pros
- Has reasonable rates
- Spacious and bright space
- Provides access to gym
- Convenient location
- Available 24/7 via access card
Cons
- Not enough areas for privacy
- Reception isn’t available on weekends
Nice work area
“An exceptional co work space in George Town. Professional feel yet casual design with lots of natural light, strong wifi, clean, well supplied kitchen area, flexible plans & all supported by a helpful staff. Highly Recommend!” – Stephen G, Google Reviews
Conveniently located
“Great place to focus and get work done. Clean, simple layout with different areas to choose from like the indoor garden area (there’s even a hammock!!) or the high tables overlooking the georgetown heritage zone. There’s free flow coffee/tea in the pantry, lots of good local food within the surrounding area so you won’t go hungry. There’s also a cafe on the ground floor of the building (More by Arang Coffee) that has really good coffee and cakes. Internet is super fast which is super good. Definitely a recommended space!” – Shia Yuen Yee, Google Reviews

One of the most beautiful coworking spaces we’ve been to is Regus Penang. The concept impressed our team a lot!
Seriously, whoever decorated the space needs praise. It’s very spacious but still manages to provide privacy, perfect for teams or lone workers.
Moreover, this coworking space looks professional but trendy at the same time. Is it too obvious we loved the area?
Plus, there are 43 meeting rooms at the Menara Boustead location. There are also 12 coworking desks, which makes the space highly accessible any day.
Speaking of highly accessible, it’s not difficult to reach Regus Penang because it’s close to public transport links. Regus also has many, and we mean MANY, coworking spaces in Malaysia and other countries!
The facilities are well-maintained as well, and cleanliness is important for us. We also commend the 24/7 CCTV for security.
— Media from regusglobal
But we all know good things come with a price. A high price, that is! A coworking membership starts at RM169 a month for only five days a month!
Furthermore, the other membership plans still have limited days of coworking use in a month. So if you want unlimited days, that will cost even more.
Even the virtual office in Regus Penang is expensive, starting at a monthly RM219. We feel that’s a bit too much for a business address.
On the upside, you get to access their other Regus coworking spaces, even those outside Malaysia. We think this is a good choice if you travel a lot for business… and have some extra cash!
The amenities are pretty good, too. The internet connection is fast and stable, and there’s IT support if you need it.
Also, it’s easy to book Regus because there’s an app. Again, that’s pretty convenient if you travel for work.
Pros
- Provides a good work environment
- Spacious area with enough privacy
- Highly accessible
- Membership is available worldwide
- Ideal for frequent work travel
Cons
- Expensive prices
- Limited number of days for the some memberships
Good work environment
“Highly functional and efficient facilities. Good IT and office support. Excellent for meeting customers in a relaxed but formal setting. There is a good local cafe on the 4th floor.” – Jeremy C, Google Reviews
Well-maintained facilities
“Quaint, cozy and spacious space in the heart of CBD, perfect centre to have a great day at work. Professional team to support you. Facilities are clean and well-maintained. Business- grade internet connectivity. Supporting all types of workstyles workers.” – Nicole Tan, Coworker Reviews

One of the most beautiful we’ve come across during our research in Penang is Hundred Years Co-working. It’s a renovated pre-war building, allowing you to work in a place full of history.
This coworking space in Penang has dark blue interiors, which made us feel relaxed upon entering. The serene atmosphere made us enjoy working there.
The high-speed internet also impressed us. Why? Well, because Hundred Years provides unlimited internet, which was pretty neat since some coworking spaces have a data cap.
Additionally, we commend that they included a locked drawer in their private desk service. It was really useful and made us feel safe about our belongings, especially when we had to get a drink or go to the bathroom.
— Media from hundredyears.space
Furthermore, we were surprised that they’re available on weekends, and they close pretty late, too. Many coworking spaces in Penang close at 6:00 PM, so we highly appreciate their availability.
But their weekends are available by reservation only. Good thing we found out before going in there blindly!
Another aspect we love about Hundred Years is the reasonable rates. For only RM39 per day, you can have a serene work environment in a historic building! Pretty cool if you ask us!
A minor drawback is the tables are too close to each other in the open area, which can be distracting. But that’s understandable, considering the building they’re in.
So, if you want to work in a century-old building full of Penang history, that’s something you need to consider… and have patience for.

- Has a serene atmosphere
- Has unlimited high-speed internet
- Available on weekends

Upon entering The Venture in Penang, we were greeted by a professional-but-not-boring space. We actually enjoyed our time here because it was clean and it has a spectacular view of the sea!
The space is also bright, and we all know sunlight helps with productivity! It’s true, though, because we were more productive with bright spaces instead of gloomy ones.
There’s plenty of space here, too. We didn’t feel cramped, even with other people typing away on their laptops.
Another aspect we were happy about is the fair prices. The day pass is only RM30, and the open hot desk is just RM288 a month.
However, you can’t use The Venture coworking space 24/7 if you don’t have a private office membership. That’s unfortunate for people who like to work at night.
But there’s high-speed internet, which we definitely enjoyed. It was stable enough to stream videos seamlessly (ssh, don’t tell our boss).
— Media from theventuremy
Oh, you can also have a professional business address at The Venture. It’s a reasonable rate of RM75 a month for a virtual office in Penang.
Additionally, my team and I liked the private office because it had enough privacy for confidential work assignments. We didn’t get distracted there, too, because the door isn’t made of glass.
Moreover, we appreciate the unlimited snacks and Milo! Yup, the energizing Milo drink, which was a nice surprise since we drank coffee already that day.
We were just disappointed to find out they aren’t open on weekends, but they have 24/7 access to private office members. Still, you can’t get that benefit if you only pay for a hot desk.
Pros
- Has an amazing view
- Bright and clean environment
- Has reasonable prices
- Internet is fast and stable
- Provides unlimited snacks
Cons
- Closed on weekends
- 24/7 access isn’t available for hot desk membership

If you’re going to look for M Summit 191, you will probably get lost because it was rebranded to The Granite Hotel. Our team was really confused when we were looking for M Summit 191.
So, we did the hard part and got lost just for you! This massive luxury hotel has a coworking space inside!
That was unique… and convenient! Imagine all the people traveling for work who need a good work environment in Penang, they can just ride the elevator and be at the coworking space.
Our favourite aspect has got to be the hotel vibe of the space. It is inside the hotel, after all!
But the design and colours make it feel premium, especially the furniture. Somehow, that helped us work better.
It’s not a big area, though. If you happen to stay at the hotel during a conference or event, don’t expect to find an available chair. Glad we didn’t!
Since it’s not a large area, it can be distracting if the person next to you is on a business call. On the upside, it’s not cramped that you’ll bump into the person next to you.
We also think that the M Summit 191 coworking space is ideal for people who don’t want to work in open spaces. The place feels secure and professional without being dull.
Additionally, the pantry is pretty impressive because there’s a microwave! Just don’t put smelly food in it to avoid distracting other people there.
Lastly, the staff were hospitable and really nice! They were also very attentive to our needs, which made the working experience even better.

But if you’re staying in the area, you can go for a 5-day pass at RM100. Their rates surprised us because of how affordable everything is!
We also like the simple design of the space. The atmosphere somehow feels homey for us.
But it’s a small space, which some of us didn’t quite like. There isn’t too much privacy for the hot desks, which can be a problem if you have people working behind you.
On a good note, the place is tidy. It’s well-maintained, which is a plus for a coworking space since many people come in and out.
Also, we were surprised to find a conference and event room despite the small space. It has complete standard features, too, which are useful for meetings.
Another positive aspect of Bersama-Sama Coworking is it’s located in a convenient area (it’s on the mainland, though!). There are plenty of restaurants nearby so you won’t go hungry during your break.

An inexpensive Penang coworking space we found is BigCO. Don’t let affordability fool you because it provides many services.
Let’s start with the rates, which we were pretty shocked about. It’s one of the lowest prices we found, at RM25 per day for a hot desk.
In addition to that, the monthly pass is only 250. Didn’t we tell you BigCO is affordable?
Plus, we were glad to see a clean space. There’s no clutter, which actually helped us focus more when we worked.
The pantry’s pretty standard. You get what you expect, free coffee and snacks for break time!
Moreover, we commend this coworking space in Penang because despite having competitive rates, their WiFi is still fast and stable! Our team didn’t have to worry about slow-loading screens at all.
Another good thing we found is the complete equipment, which the staff prepare. Oh, and the equipment was complete, so no worries about bringing your own.
BigCO coworking space can also act as your virtual office in Penang. That’s because they provide mail and parcel handling if you are a member.
We’re also giving them points for being available on weekends. If you’re a member, you even get 24/7 access and can get your money’s worth.
A drawback we found is that BigCO isn’t too big and there isn’t much privacy. When there are many people, you can hear every click of the keyboard because you’re too close to each other.
Also, the dark ceiling can make the space feel gloomy once the sun’s down. Some of us here found it difficult to work because we felt there weren’t enough lights.

- Clean space
- Has affordable rates
- Available on weekends
- Equipment are prepared
- Has stable WiFi
