Appealing ambience
“Heard of this place for a while, indeed a good place for a meal. The restaurant with great lighting making it cozy and comfortable. The boss I think, forgot ask for his name is friendly. Foods are fresh and tasty. Will definitely keep coming back for meals and friends gathering.
Parking: Located at a small street from the main road, not difficult to find when you have Waze/g.maps.” — イームン(Vjntage lover), Google Reviews
Great variety of affordable food
“Authentic japanese food in a cooling cosy ambience with an affordable price. Came for lunch and tried their meal set and octopus takoyaki. The meal set was priced from RM19 to RM30. Ordered the tempura meal set (RM19) and request the white rice to be replaced with the garlic fried rice with an additional cost of RM5.
The tempura came with 2 prawns, brinjal, sweet potatoe and green peppercorn. Absolutely crispy till the end and the garlic fried rice is a must try as the wok hei and garlicky taste is so overpowering hehe. The sashimi set is priced at RM30 and comes with 5 types of fresh different sashimi mainly octopus, salmon, tuna etc. Value for money as its fresh and portion is good too.
The Octopus Takoyaki tasted great and came with 6pcs (small size though) but worth the price as only RM8. Overall a very satisfied experienced to dine here amd definetely will come back again to try other dishes. The bill comes with a 10% service charge and a 6% government tax ya.
Really dont mind about the service charge as the price of the food is consider affordable and the services provided by the crew is top notch.” — Alan Hooi, Google Reviews

Sushi Mentai Greentown offers an extensive menu of sushi and other Japanese food. Some of the favourites we spotted online are the salmon sushi, sushi roll, and salmon mentai.
Personally, we find that the food in Sushi Mentai Greentown needs improvement in the flavour department.
This restaurant might not be the same as higher-end sushi places in terms of taste, but there is a significant difference in the prices. Dishes here are very affordable, making it one of the cheapest places you could dine in if you’re in the mood for sushi.
Aside from the food, another thing we’re impressed with is the restaurant’s staff. The friendly nature of the staff makes it very appealing to continue dining here.

Affordable food
“Usually not every Sushi Mentai restaurant is up to the standard but this one is right up there with their quality of food. Price wise it is one of the best Sushi restaurants you can have in Ipoh while not sacrificing too much on food quality.
Definitely recommended. However, please be prepared to wait for tables during weekends or public holidays.” — Lionel, Google Reviews
Good variety and quality of food
“If you are looking for an affordable sushi meal, this is the ideal place. The variety & quality is reasonable but of course not comparable to high end places. Good place to hangout. Can be crowded.” — wong engwah, Google Reviews

Sushi YA Greentown is part of another huge chain of sushi restaurants in Malaysia. Located in the bustling Greentown Business Centre, Sushi YA is a popular sushi place in Perak.
What we love about Sushi YA is its extensive menu. Aside from the usual sushi, the restaurant also offers karaage, noodles, and curry.
However, we find that the food taste in Sushi YA Greentown is a bit lacking. We don’t know if it’s because of the many food options but the place could definitely use an improvement in the flavour aspect.
On the plus side, the service in Sushi YA Greentown should be praised. The staff is helpful and friendly; there’s even a cool robot that goes around the dining area to deliver meals– definitely an entertaining sight to see!
Another thing we love about this place is the affordable prices. Their website tagline, “No. 1 Affordable Sushi Restaurant in Malaysia”, is accurate since a plate of sushi costs around RM3.33.
When talking about ambience, Sushi YA Greentown is also a favourite of ours. The entire restaurant is well-lit and spot-free, with a conveyor belt safely serving food to each table.
Overall, Sushi YA Greentown has some room for improvement when it comes to the flavours of its food. The restaurant makes up for it by being a budget-friendly option for those looking to satisfy their sushi cravings.

Good atmosphere
“The food is absolutely delicious, the sashimi is so fresh. I loved the atmosphere as well, my mom and I had a great time there. Great place for good food and family bonding.” — Natallya Evers, Google Reviews
Great selection of food but taste can be improved
“Not so crowed during dinner hours. Have a good selection on the menu and ordering via online platform, reasonable priced. However, the taste of the food was average, nothing surprising.
Those fried dishes on conveyor were cold, likes were being kept there for sometimes. The deep-fried salmon bones was really bony, nothing much to eat, better avoid. Soup of the noodles was overseasoned. The curry was on the sourish side, just ok. Mayonnaise sauce was too sour as well.” — Chee Ho Wong, Google Reviews

A charming little sushi place in the Greentown Business Centre, Menya Umami is a cosy restaurant that’s perfect for when you’re hit with that craving for sushi. The restaurant itself offers a great and affordable variety of delicious sushi and sashimi.
Now, don’t get confused with their Facebook page name– Umami Sushi is still Menya Umami. You should be looking for the latter name when you want to check them out at their physical location in Perak.
Just a fun fact: umami means “essence of deliciousness” in Japanese. And that essence is definitely what Menya Umami offers to its customers.
We love that the portions in their sushi and sashimi platters are generous and fresh. The variety in Menya Umami’s menu can be seen in their offerings of other Japanese food.
Along with sushi and sashimi, you can also enjoy their best-selling ramen or their tasty teriyaki, served by experienced and friendly staff.
Since the restaurant is somewhat smaller compared to other sushi places in Perak, it has a quiet atmosphere for casual dining. A tall divider separates most of the tables so you can fully focus on enjoying your meal.
However, we are a bit iffy with the wheelchair accessibility in Menya Umami. The small space it occupies doesn’t really cater to wheelchair users so that definitely needs some improvement.
On the plus side, there are also a lot of parking spots near Menya Umami. However, expect that it will fill up quickly during the weekends because the restaurant is located in a very popular spot in Perak.
As a whole, you can enjoy noteworthy Japanese Cuisine when you dine in Menya Umami. Their selection of sushi definitely validates the “umami” in their name.
Pros
- Fresh and delicious food
- Cozy atmosphere
- Great service
Cons
- Not wheelchair accessible
- Inconsistent quality of food

Great-tasting food
“We bumped into this Japanese restaurant by chance as we couldn’t get any seats at the nearby restaurants around that area. Food is tasty and worth trying.
We had sashimi, unagi bento set, spicy tonkatsu ramen and spider hand roll. My family really enjoyed the meal.” — Nancy Thong, Google Reviews
Good variety in the menu
“Simple setting Japanese restaurant with good selection of bento sets for lunch and dinner. A la carte menu items have small dishes like roast miso eggplant, takoyaki, braised tofu, sushi rolls and sashimi. Grilled varieties of fish heads are available too.
Limited drinks selections and ice cream though this is not an issue. Food is delicious and localized. Price range from RM25.00 per person onwards. Not accessible by wheelchair.” — Claire Chai, Google Reviews
