When it comes to seafood, one of the things that immediately pops up in our team’s mind is crab. As self-acclaimed ‘seafood experts’, we decided to visit one of the hyped-up restaurants that offer this delectable crustacean, Seremban Yesoon Seafood Crab Restaurant.

As soon as we were seated, we were immediately greeted by the aroma coming from their kitchen. Of course, we came for their crabs, which is why we ordered two different variations of it, namely the chilli crab with rice and salted egg crab.

Not much can be said about what we ordered other than they exceeded our expectations! They were both seasoned nicely and the crabs themselves have been steamed to perfection, which left us with delicious white flaky meat.

As for the establishment itself, we felt like it has some room for improvement, especially in the interior design department. For what it’s worth, we still appreciated its no-frills approach to dining as it shifts your focus to the dishes themselves (which were phenomenal, in our books).

When it comes to their customer service, we’ll understand if some people would hate it as the waiting times can be sometimes long. We experienced this first-hand but it wasn’t to the point where we grew irritated.

Plus, we couldn’t complain about the long waiting times because their staff was extremely accommodating to us.

Pros

  • Delicious crab dishes
  • Widely-varied menu
  • Friendly customer service

Cons

  • The interior design could use some improvements
  • Serving time can sometimes be long
  • Lack of air conditioning

Customer Reviews

Chilli crab with rice

“This is a Chinese restaurant. I enjoyed a chilli crab with rice. Its menu has pictures with descriptions, it was easy to order. As you are well aware, crab is an expensive food ingredient and usually, it takes time to steam the crab after order, so be patient.

You will get a good reward. It was good though I felt the crab shell was somewhat thicker than I expected. The staff did not give me vinyl gloves, it was sticky with their seasoning. It is better for you to bring wet tissues and/or vinyl.

For your information, the restaurant does not have air conditioners, and check its business hours in advance. I want to visit again and want to try another one someday. Enjoy.” —Junhyuk Song, Google Reviews

Very happy

“Stopped by for lunch. 7pax. Ordered 5 dishes including salted egg crab and homemade tofu. Fresh coconuts for all. Very happy with the variety and flavours. Will visit again.” —Winnie Lim, Google Reviews

Port Dickson is home to several locally renowned seafood restaurants and the perfect example of this is Weng Yin Seafood Village. We had the pleasure to dine in this famous restaurant and it’s safe to say that it’s a must-try for seafood lovers.

Being this close to the shore allows the place to have the freshest seafood at its disposal and that’s exactly what we tasted. We ordered various crab and prawn-based dishes, both of which tasted amazing thanks to their sauce and freshness.

Aside from that, we also appreciated how varied their menu was. From different kinds of seafood dishes to sides and desserts, they didn’t fall short on what to offer us during our stay here.

To complete our meal, we decided to treat ourselves to their famous durian ice cream. This was indeed the right decision as this flavour did a great job cleansing our palettes, getting rid of the seafood taste from our mouths.

As for the establishment itself, it was rather spacious as it featured both inside and outside seating. It didn’t have air conditioning but it was ventilated enough thanks to its open layout.

The glaring issue that we didn’t like about the place was that the prices aren’t that reasonable for the portion that they serve. We felt like they could do better in terms of being generous with their serving size because they already nailed down the presentation and taste.

Pros

  • Delicious seafood
  • Fresh ingredients
  • Well-ventilated premises

Cons

  • Occasional slow service
  • Inconsistent serving sizes

Customer Reviews

Worth a visit

“Came here because of previous reviews. Easy parking. Just the 2 of us. Me and my 14 year old who does not eat seafood. We ordered fried chicken for him and I had ginger fish and we shared a stir-fried kangkung. The food was very decent. Service friendly. Would come here again. The bonus was the ice cream shop just outside. Delicious!!!” —PYLiew, Tripadvisor

Great Service and Great Food

“The service is very good. The staffs are very friendly. Food is nice and value for money. Need to be there earlier as lots of people. Although lots of people, they serve fast.” —CC_10100707, Tripadvisor

They had a plethora of offerings but one that caught our attention from the get-go was the hot pot seafood. We didn’t know what the ingredients of the delicious soup were but we couldn’t get enough of it as we loved its slightly tangy and spicy flavour.

What we loved the most about this dish was how generous they were with the amount of seafood submerged in the sauce. Our experience was like a treasure hunt where we were rewarded with tons of seafood meat swimming in our pot.

Ambience-wise, it’s nothing fancy. However, it does feature a more authentic dining experience with its traditional architecture.

As for its downsides, the biggest one would have to be its inconsistency. For instance, some of the crabs were shallow while others were super meaty.

Another thing we didn’t like was the slightly pricey menu. We felt like the prices that we paid weren’t reasonable based on the dishes that were served on our table.

One thing that they nail down consistently, however, is the taste. All of the dishes we ordered featured the same high quality when it comes to taste which we highly value in our restaurant recommendations.

Pros

  • Fresh seafood
  • Delicious dishes
  • Authentic dining experience
  • Well-ventilated

Cons

  • Slightly pricey menu
  • Inconsistent seafood items

One of the seafood places that we kept hearing about in Negeri Sembilan was Hao Kee Seafood Restaurant. It’s a good thing we listened as this place treated us to one of the best seafood dining experiences in the state.

For starters, we loved how reasonable their prices were. We didn’t feel like we were paying too little or too much, especially considering how delicious their dishes were.

We had to try their salted crab as we saw it being ordered by different customers and we couldn’t get enough of its aroma. Once we got our hands on it, we put the pedal to the metal and devoured it in what felt like a couple of minutes.

The only thing we didn’t like about our order was the small size of the prawns. We felt like they were tiny compared to the other proportions that were served to us, but then again, they were still delicious and fresh.

Their customer service was commendable, too, as their staff was extra friendly while assisting us with everything we needed. Furthermore, we love that they were fast in serving our orders!

As for the place itself, it’s your typical eatery in Malaysia. It features an open layout to provide good ventilation and is equipped with the usual red plastic stools and tables.

It doesn’t have an air conditioner. Instead, the restaurant has several ceiling fans scattered across the premises–which didn’t bother us at all.

Pros

  • Authentic dining experience
  • Delicious seafood dishes
  • Reasonable prices

Cons

  • Lack of air conditioning

    Yummy food

“Food was excellent, the staff super friendly and helpful. We had fish squid and a veggie yum yum yum. I loved the fact my Chinese tea came in a mug, not a glass I could actually hold it. An all-round wonderful lunch.” —Katie M, Tripadvisor

One restaurant that we adored during our search for the best seafood spots in Negeri Sembilan was Gim Men Teppanyaki. There are several reasons why we loved our experience in this humble eatery, one of which was their creative presentation of dishes.

We ordered the crab with fillings and we loved its flavour and presentation. This dish was a hollowed-out crab shell that’s been filled with the crustacean’s tender white meat, along with some other ingredients, to make it even more flavourful.

    Photo from: https://www.facebook.com/Gim.Men.Teppanyaki/

Aside from that, we also got grilled fish, which was as fresh as they come. We loved how perfectly cooked the fish was as it has developed this smokey flavour which completely elevated the taste even further.

Their menu wasn’t that varied but we liked how they offered enough choices, like tofu and duck, to cater to non-seafood enthusiasts.

Another reason why we adore this restaurant is its customer service. We appreciated how friendly the staff were with us as we were dining on their premises.

Speaking of premises, their establishment was clean enough to make us comfortable to stay. However, they could use some improvements in the interior design department.

The biggest problem we have with this restaurant, however, is its limited operating hours as they’re only open three days a week (Fri-Sun). Plus, they only operate for a couple of hours.

    Pros

    • Authentic dining experience
    • Delicious seafood dishes
    • Reasonable prices

    Cons

    • Limited operating hours
