I’ve always had a soft spot for cinemas, as my family and I frequented them when I was a kid. Nowadays, it seems like everything is released on streaming platforms, and those who go to the cinema are a dying breed.
Not us though, as we still think that the movie experience is different inside cinemas! Also, there are new movie houses that are popping up around Klang Valley that are geared towards kids, which I think could save the future of movie houses, in general.
As a cinephile parent, I just love going to these places and introducing my kids to the newest movies coming out, so consider me a connoisseur of these cinemas. To help you plan your next movie outing, here are some of my top picks for the best kids’ cinema in and around KL!

It’s places like PlayPlus by Golden Screen Cinemas that make me feel jealous of kids today because these didn’t exist when I was growing up. This place is basically a cinema and a playground rolled into one, as it comes with a fully-fledged play area for kids to run wild in.
One of the main highlights of this playground is the long slide that leads down to a colourful ball pit—now that’s something you don’t see every day. With that being said, prepare to hear a lot of screaming, as kids take turns sliding with glee!
It isn’t all bad for the parents though, as the seats are these colourful plush leather chairs that are sure to make anyone fall asleep in a couple of minutes. If you’re feeling a bit youthful, however, you can sink yourself into one of the cinema’s bean bags while watching the movie.

Dadi Cinema is the perfect mix of movie-watching and playing, as it doesn’t overdo one part over the other. For instance, instead of having the play area in a different room, it’s placed in front of the screen so parents can continue watching the movie while their kids are having fun.
Granted that the play area isn’t that big, it features enough attractions to keep your little kiddos active and interested. These attractions include mini climbable structures that take the form of animals, and colourful leather stools for when they get tired.
We also love how the entire cinema is decorated to cater to kids! From the plush leather seats taking the form of different animals to the bright coloured lights and painted walls, everything here screams kid-friendly.
Pro tip:
This cinema is located in the Pavilion Mall, one of Malaysia’s best shopping centres. This being said you might as well check out some other family-friendly activities like bowling, karaoke, shopping, etc.

For starters, the cinemas themselves are charmingly decorated, featuring colourful laid-back chairs and brightly painted walls. There are also family beds where you can snuggle up with your kiddos while munching on popcorn and immersing yourself in the movie.
Furthermore, they also feature a separate play area so those little rascals can run wild up and down the hall before, after or even during the movie! And when we say play area, we mean it in the most literal way, as it features slides, climbable structures, ball pits, swings and more!

Aurum Theatre is one of the most luxurious cinemas we’ve ever seen in Klang Valley, and it’s a great option if you want to pamper yourself and your family. Your children will surely love snuggling up with you in one of their luxurious reclining beds while watching the latest flicks!
If that doesn’t scream luxury for you, then you should know that each “suite” will also have a built-in mini-fridge consisting of complimentary snacks! These contain soda, water, and juice and you can even get some free popcorn—pretty cool!
They also offer IMAX cinemas to make your movie-watching experience much more immersive. If you want to take immersion to another level, however, you should check out their 270-degree cinema where the screen takes over the walls as well!
