11 Best Indian Restaurants in Kuala Lumpur
We always jokingly say that when you roam the streets of Kuala Lumpur, there are three things that you’re bound to see. These are beautiful structures, friendly locals and Indian restaurants.
Though we’re not surprised given that Indian cuisine is one of the biggest influences on the Malay cuisine people know and love today. We can’t complain either, as it’s one of our all-time faves when it comes to Malaysia’s rich cuisine.
Join us in this review as we take a closer look at some of our favourite Indian restaurants around Kuala Lumpur. We’ve also highlighted some of their pros and cons to give you a better idea of what you can expect from each establishment.
How We Picked the Best Indian Restaurants in Kuala Lumpur
Since there are countless Indian restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, we had to choose our top picks using the following criteria:
1. Gajaa at 8

Taste | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Affordability | ★★★☆☆ (3/5) |

Customer service | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
One restaurant that offers the ultimate Indian fine dining experience is Gajaa at 8. We’ve had the pleasure of dining here once and it’s safe to say that we’ll come back soon!
For starters, the place itself is a pleasure to dine in because of its quiet atmosphere. It’s also spacious enough to offer different kinds of interior designs under a single bungalow-style building.
The main highlight, however, is their menu, which offers a wide variety of dishes to cater to different kinds of preferences (including vegetarian & vegan options). From what we’ve tried during our experience, we can say that they know what they’re doing in the kitchen.
We ordered various dishes but the ones we wanted to highlight in this review are their prawn butter masala and Amma’s Mutton Curry. Both dishes had generous portions and featured amazing tastes!
The customer service was world-class too, as they were accommodating and friendly throughout our time in the establishment. They were also quick with serving our orders, which is always a good thing in our books.
Of course, the price of dining in a place like this wouldn’t come cheap, which is where the problem comes in. The expensive price of this restaurant’s menu may rub people the wrong way since Indian food is known for being affordable.
Overall, it was a great experience dining here at Gajaa at 8. The prices they charge were indeed on the steeper side but we think it’s made up for by the quality and quantity of their dishes.
Pros
- Fine-dining experience
- Wide variety of authentic Indian dishes
- Vegetarian and vegan options
Cons
- Expensive

“The food was absolutely fantastic. Really well-portioned, clean, delicious traditional Indian food. The Tandoori chicken, and garlic cheese naan were so good. Some of the best Indian food I’ve had out and about in Southeast Asia. The prices aren’t too bad either. This restaurant is certainly worth trying. Come hungry so you can sample numerous dishes—it’s worth it!
The interior design is quite comfortable and elegant. The seats are well-cushioned, and the tables and floor are very clean. It’s slightly dimmed inside, giving a nice ambience for dinner service. I personally had no issue with the service when I ate here, though I know other patrons have had their issues here and there. Definitely worth trying while in KL if you’re craving Indian!“—Christopher Gorrie, Google Reviews

One of the oldest and most famous Indian restaurants in Kuala Lumpur is a place called Betel Leaf. This establishment has been around since 2009 and since then, they’ve been a go-to spot for a lot of people who crave Indian food frequently, us included.
This place offers an expansive menu featuring some all-time classics, such as tandoori chicken, dal thadka, garlic mutton and more. These are our go-to dishes and we highly recommend them if you don’t know what to order from their menu.
They also have a separate menu for their vegan and vegetarian options, which is always great to have. Even though we aren’t vegetarians, we still tried their vegetable kurma and it was up to par with the other dishes we ordered.
Ambience-wise, it’s a bit noisy just because it’s packed and lively most of the time. We didn’t mind it, but it can bother other customers who just want to eat their meals in peace.
As for their interior decor, we think it’s just average. It’s not bad but it isn’t anything special either, as they don’t offer a lot of eye-catching designs.
Nonetheless, it’s still a great restaurant to rely on when you’re craving Indian food. Plus, the prices they charge for these delicious dishes are reasonable so you won’t have to worry about breaking the bank.
Pros
- Delicious and authentic Indian dishes
- Affordable prices
- Friendly customer service
Cons
- The premises can be a bit noisy sometimes
- Average interior design

“Wholesome good comfort South Indian food. The Vegetarian Thai set comes with generous portions and multiple flavours of curries and vegetables. We also ordered the prawn and quail tandoori that was very flavourful but with a tad too much tandoori powder (prepare for your hands to be stained for at least a day :).
The place itself is decently clean but service can be a tad slow so keep reminding the waiters. Lunch is generally terribly crowded so better to avoid! Overall, it is a recommended experience.”—Anand R, Google Reviews

MTR 1924 proudly wears its years of experience in its name, and we can’t blame them! Obviously, having this kind of longevity isn’t an easy feat but upon trying their dishes, we can easily understand how they managed to be in the business this long.
The saying less is more couldn’t be more true with this restaurant. MTR 1924 features a simple menu that serves the all-time classics of Indian cuisine from masala dosa, akki roti, fried lentils and more.
Each dish we ordered from their menu was authentic and flavourful. Plus, we could really see the experience of the establishment behind these dishes since they’ve been serving them for several years.
We just want to give a heads-up, however, about their spice levels. Keep in mind that this is an authentic Indian restaurant so the flavours may be stronger than what you’re used to, so make sure to advise the waiter beforehand.
The interior design was alright, but what it lacks in decoration is made up for by the comfortability of its premises. It features air conditioning, comfortable seats and a relatively spacious area where customers could eat peacefully.
Overall, we loved our time here at MTR 1924 because of its delicious and authentic Indian cuisine. What we didn’t love was the lack of its own parking space, which led us to find nearby options that required payment.
Pros
- Simple yet delicious dishes
- Comfortable premises
- Cheap prices
- Vegetarian options
Cons
- Limited parking space

“Authentic taste of Karnataka State, located in the busy street of Brookfield’s. The food tastes really nice. Friendly staff who also happened to speak the native Kannada language. Good choice of menu. Not crowded when we were there at about 4 pm.
Prices are moderate to high and there is not much waiting for food being served. The menu photos are attached
Vegetarian options: This is the only, pure vegetarian restaurant.

Delicious food in Little India
“I had the sambar vada, masala dosa and tomato Bhath (Wednesday special) and with a 7up the bill came to 89rm. (£6?). All the dishes were great and enough for 1 person but the Bhath was probably my favourite. The staff were welcoming and I will definitely go back.”—Venture723345, Tripadvisor

Among all the Indian restaurants in KL, Kayra Authentic Kerala Cuisine offers one of the most varied menus. Not only does it serve a wide variety of our Indian favourites but it also offers sweet treats and different kinds of beverages.
The menu kind of overwhelmed us at first but we eventually landed on ordering the South Indian specialties: fish moilee biryani and dhal spinach. Both dishes were presented creatively and most importantly, they were filled with flavour.
In hindsight, we can say that this was the perfect order for us since we weren’t that well-versed in the cuisine and these two dishes were good entry points.
We also want to commend their customer service, as our waiter knew the menu like the back of his hand. This led to us knowing what dish would suit our taste the best.
The only downside we could think of when dining here is the price point. Their menu tends to lean on the pricier side, which can be understandable when you associate it with the overall taste and quality of the food you’re getting.
At the end of the day, this spot is a solid choice for when you’re craving delicious Indian dishes that taste authentic. Plus, with the ambience and world-class service you’re getting, we can say that it’s well worth the price, even if just for special occasions.
Pros
- Widely-varied menu
- Delicious and authentic South Indian cuisine
- Classy interior
- The waiter were knowledgeable with the menu
Cons
- Above average prices

“If you are looking for good Indian cuisine, this is the place. The food was great. However, the price is on the pricier side. But it’s worth the experience.
But, I won’t recommend getting any cakes from here. My friends and I ordered one, but the taste and everything is average only.
The decorations are top-notch, you will have good lighting which is good for photos as well”—Loke Saleh, Google Reviews

The great thing about Indian cuisine is that you don’t have to break your diet just to enjoy its dishes. That’s because it features some of the most delicious vegetarian dishes of all time, and one restaurant that offers this in Kuala Lumpur is The Ganga Cafe.
This nice little eatery features an expansive menu containing numerous vegetarian dishes that don’t sacrifice flavours to remain healthy. You can easily get lost in their menu but we decided to stick to the classics and ordered some samosas and chana masala.
We can’t say much about our order other than it tasted great. It was flavoured thoroughly, especially the chickpeas in the chana masala, which elevated the dish even further.
The customer service is commendable too as they were fast with our orders. Plus, they were informative, as they gave us all the things we needed to know about the dishes on their menu before we could order.
As for the place itself, we loved it for being a straight-up eatery with no extra frills at all. This type of interior can be a hit or miss sometimes but they definitely nailed it here.
It doesn’t have air conditioning but what it does have in its place are huge ceiling fans. These fans partnered with the open layout of the restaurant make for a great combination, as it makes the place more comfortable and airy.
Pros
- Informative staff
- Reasonable prices
- Wide variety of vegetarian dishes
Cons
- Lack of air conditioning

“If you are a vegetarian, you must try out this place! Even if you are not one, try it out too! Serves so many Indian vegetarian options, which means they are all full of flavours. Everything we ordered was so good! Even the fried cauliflower. Highly recommend.
However, if you’re not familiar with Indian food, it is very useful to bring along a friend who knows Indian food or ask the staff about what each item on the menu means. The menu design was super crowded with text and images competing with each other, I was super clueless on what to order, but luckily I had a friend who ordered for us instead.” —ulfa, Google Reviews

“Bustling Indian lunch cafe that’s both economical and gastronomical!
Pleasant staff serving some real Indian dish and drinks. Pricing is quite reasonable, with a good thali going for 10-12. That’s on par with their fancy fruit drinks!
Good vibes with lively, modern decor. Seating space is a little close for comfort, but overall relatively hygienic and mighty tasty.” —Sam “Green Eggs & Ham” Shee, Tripadvisor

The ultimate meat lover’s paradise is a spot nestled in Bukit Damansara called Meat the Porkers.
This restaurant is sure to meet your meat cravings just like it did for us thanks to its various meat offerings. Personally, what immediately caught our eyes was Herukh’s BBQ Pork Belly, which had a star beside its name on their menu signifying that it’s a best-seller.
At first, we thought that it was going to be your run-of-the-mill pork belly but we couldn’t be more wrong. Each slice of this delicious pork belly was seeping with flavour and that may be because of the in-house fennel barbeque sauce made by the titular Chef Herukh himself.
Obviously, they made themselves stand out from the rest by making pork a huge highlight of their dishes. However, don’t let its name fool you!
To our surprise, Meat the Porkers also offers a fairly varied menu that’s specifically for vegetarians. Although we didn’t necessarily get anything from this category, it’s nice that they consider other people’s diets and beliefs.
The only problem that we faced during our dining experience here was the long waiting time. Although this can vary depending on what time you visit, we just thought that it was worth mentioning here since it can be a make-or-break factor for other customers.
Pros
- Delicious pork-based dishes
- Generous servings
- Creatively-presented dishes
Cons
- Long waiting time due to crowdedness

Really tasty and delicious
“This is a very nice non-halal Indian restaurant located on the first floor. Every single dish is well-created, really tasty and delicious.
For being at first-floor level, the breeze coming inside the restaurant is really pleasant at the balcony area. The atmosphere is also splendid.
They open for lunch from 10:30 am to 11 pm at night. Perfect place for couples, families and gatherings for birthdays, events or special occasions.
100% recommended” —Caning Alexis, Google Reviews
Delicious dinner!
“Just been for dinner at Meat the Porkers and I am so glad I did! It was a fantastic choice. The staff were so lovely and perfectly attentive. The food was amazing; it will be my go-to place for curry from now on. The tacos we started with tasted incredible and the curries we shared were filling and delicious. It was easy to park nearby and is somewhere I’d definitely take guests. Great value, great service and great food. I would highly recommend dining here.” —bethf557, Tripadvisor

If you’re looking for the ultimate fine dining experience that serves delicious Indian food, look no further than Nadodi KL. This fancy restaurant along Jalan Yap Kwan Seng serves full-course meals that consist of Indian dishes.
Our favourite out of everything that was served during our stay was this dish called Nomad’s Globe. It was this biryani-like dish that was filled with interesting flavours and textures thanks to ingredients such as cashew, shishito pepper and mint-flavoured salna.
As for the ambience, you can expect everything that comes with a fine-dining restaurant such as this. From classy interior decors to plush leather seats, jazz music and more, this place makes you feel like a million bucks.
We also appreciated how we were treated by the staff throughout our entire time here. They were accommodating and helpful whenever we needed some clarifications about the dishes that they were serving us.

“I had their Vegetarian 9-course meal and pairing wine. My husband had the normal set (with seafood and meat) and pairing cocktail. Pairing with a cocktail is highly recommended. I love all their pairing wine selection too.
Sauces, herbs, veggies and fruits are the main ingredients of my course. The plating is beautiful and tastes even better. No wonder the restaurant is one of the top 50 restaurants in Asia. It is indeed a must-go place.
My favourite is the first course – Snack Me. So good I can still vividly recall how good it was. 🙂
Pairing with wine cost RM300 while pairing with cocktail is RM210. The bill came up to slightly over 2k for us. A hefty sum for a meal, but it was absolutely worth it.” —Karen Ng, Google Reviews
Great Dining Experience at Nadodi
“I’m normally a strict grader for restaurants, like Nadodi, that offer multi-course tasting menus. In my view, each item presented on a tasting menu should be a perfect little jewel of a morsel — surprising but harmonious flavours that meld seamlessly. (Otherwise just order several appetizers at a lower price without all the fuss.) This is particularly so when the courses come with wine pairings, which frequently are uninspiring. So often these menus fall short of what you’re led to expect.
I’m happy to say that for Nadodi, the result was Mission Accomplished! It was a fine-tasting menu with every course providing a joyous surprise of flavour and texture. The wine pairings were well chosen.
It’s pricey, of course, but if you want a delicious dining experience, you won’t go wrong here.”—James B, Tripadvisor

Located in one of the most famous shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur is a beloved Indian restaurant called Khan’s Indian Cuisine. It’s been around for a long time and we’ve been fans ever since we discovered it during one of our many food crawls.
Khan’s Indian Cuisine is a superb option for families thanks to its generous servings and platter options. Our go-to order when visiting this place is the lamb sheekh kebab just because of the natural flavour that it gives off after being grilled.
Aside from that, our favourites include the tandoori chicken, malabar fish fry and buttered chicken. We haven’t been disappointed with these dishes so far and, for us, this kind of consistency is what makes Khan’s Indian Cuisine special.
Before visiting, however, there are two things you need to know. Firstly, the place can get packed pretty fast so make sure to get there early to make sure that you can claim one of their tables or just reserve a table beforehand.
Secondly, parking is a bit crazy here since it’s located in a mall. Alternatively, you can find parking spots in nearby areas of the mall for a lower price and an easier time searching for an available slot.

- Wide variety of authentic Indian dishes
- Reasonable prices
- Cool interior
Cons
- Almost always crowded making it tough to get a table

Loved it, would definitely visit again if I had the chance
“The best Indian food I had in Malaysia, I’m not a fan of Chinese food, so Indian food was my first option for the whole 2 weeks I spent in Malaysia.
This restaurant is the best, loved it. Classy, delicious food, great food portion, lovely staff, and a very nice atmosphere.
And although it is a classy restaurant, the prices are very reasonable.” —J_mohamed144, Tripadvisor
Great for family gatherings
“A very nice place to eat. Big & bright place. Also noticed that people like to have “family gatherings” here whilst enjoying delicious food.
Do opt for a bigger table because their presentation plates are quite large & take up a lot of space on your table.” —Jaqen, Tripadvisor

Looking to get your daily fix of barbequed meat? Then you should stop by BBQ Nights in Kuala Lumpur. Featuring an open layout where the aroma of grilled meat reaches the sidewalk, this restaurant is a must-try for meat lovers.
As soon as we got seated on one of their red stools, we got a whiff of what was cooking in their kitchen. Without even looking, we immediately knew that it was mutton chops being seared on the grill so it was a no-brainer to order it.
Their kebabs are so flavourful and the beautiful char they get from the grill only enhances the taste even further. We tried dipping it in their in-house sauce and it was a match made in heaven.
As for its ambience, it’s your typical humble Indian eatery where red stools and metallic square tables are found across the area. Plus, ceiling fans take the place of air conditioners, which is a great idea considering that the place has an open area layout.
The downside that comes with having a layout like this is that it often gets too noisy and cramped. However, if you don’t mind these sorts of things and see it as the authentic way of eating Indian food, then by all means check this place out!
Pros
- Various types of grilled meat
- Reasonable prices

We’ve been here several times and every time we visit, it’s a must to order this famous dish. There’s just something about how they make nasi kandar that makes them stand out from the rest of the Indian restaurants in the capital.

Lovely sweet roti!
“We came here just for sweet roti (a crispy cone drizzled in a sticky condensed milk sauce) which was unbelievably yummy. I didn’t have a main meal but the food looked and smelt delicious. The Indian cuisine is quite vast and it’s difficult to capture its entire essence in a single menu. However, there is this one restaurant that’s successful in curating an expansive menu called Mollagaa.
Located in the streets of Lebuh Ampang, this restaurant is a great spot to eat authentic Indian dishes with families or friend groups. That’s because they offer something called the banana leaf set meal where rice is served in a banana leaf along with some curries and other spices.
It’s simple yet effective in satisfying our cravings for Indian dishes. The best part about this restaurant is that it doesn’t break the bank even when the quality of its dishes seems to be on par with the ones served in fancier establishments.
Another dish that we’re suckers for is their fried chicken. The batter they use to coat these bad boys is delicious, featuring a perfect balance between spicy, savoury and tangy.
Overall, our experience with Mollagaa was pleasant — but if we were to nitpick something we didn’t like, it would be their interior decor. It isn’t terrible at all but we thought that it’s a bit outdated and could use some improvement or modernisation.
Finally, just note that you may encounter a long queue during your visit since this place is quite famous in the area.
Pros
- Widely varied menu consisting of authentic Indian dishes
- Spacious area

Chow down a Banana Leaf lunch
“Had a great banana leaf lunch at Mollagaa. Got in at noon on a Friday, and just managed to be seated before the queue formed.
We had the vegetarian banana leaf set and shared a Chettinad platter. Not sure which curry, one is quite spicy hot, think is the chilli crab.
Enjoyed the meal very much. Service was quick and the meal was done in less than an hour.
When we leave, there was a queue downstairs.” —Jed I, Google Reviews

“I ordered their banana leaf set meal. It was really good! Good food and great customer service.
The place is crowded for lunch so the staff could be slow but helpful to explain certain dishes. Price can be considered on the slightly higher side. But the good food and customer service lives up to it”—Samad Talukder, Google Reviews
