First off, if you’re thinking, “Great, another article promising me a magical evening in yet another bar,” well, buckle up, buttercup! I’m not about to send you off to where the beer taps are more exhausted than a parent at a Taylor Swift concert.

Instead, I’m gonna introduce you to some of KL’s best cocktail bars that turned people’s world tipsy with their cocktails, and yes, including us! Trust me, we’ve put our livers on the line, all in the name of research (it’s a tough job, but who cares? It’s cocktails!).

We swung by Coley recently, and honestly, this place is a gem in Kuala Lumpur. What we like most is how they nail the classic cocktails but also throw in some seriously inventive mixes.

We were happy to see that the bartenders really know their stuff, like making drink art look easy. Our crew was even more impressed with the cozy vibe—you know, it’s not one of those pretentious, swanky bars.

It’s got a chill, almost intimate atmosphere, which is just perfect for a relaxed evening. Now, based on the regulars we’ve chatted with, the bartenders here are wizards with their shakers; they can probably mix a potion to cure any bad day. 

We’re just a bit iffy on the prices—a touch steep, but considering the quality of the drinks, most would say you’re getting top bang for your buck. 

Space is another thing; the place isn’t huge, which means it can get pretty packed on weekends. Nevertheless, once you do snag a seat, the experience is top-notch, from sips to service.

“Was not sure what to expect but was very surprised by everything (in a good way). The staff was nice and knowledgeable, and the whole vibe and design of the bar was very cool.

Penrose KL is a new hotspot among Kuala Lumpur’s cocktail lovers. What we like most, hands down, is their creative flair since their cocktail list is like a tour de force of flavors—really something else if you’re into that kind of adventure in a glass.

What we even love is that the space itself is super inviting; it’s got this old-world charm that’s kind of refreshing amidst the city hustle. 

We were happy with the staff too—friendly folks who know their stuff. They gave us fantastic recommendations, which were just what we needed. 

They even remembered us and our drinks (shoutout to my Fubuki Martini!) on our next visit, which was pretty cool.

Although, we found the long wait times during peak hours a bummer. And finding this place can be a bit tricky—it’s a tad too hidden for the newbies in town. 

The good news? Once you’re in, it feels like you’re part of an exclusive club.

Just a heads up: this place isn’t the cheapest night out option. But quality and exclusivity come at a cost, right? Most patrons we spoke with seem to think so too!

Sophisticated and refined drinks, worth the splurge

“This is an extremely sophisticated looking bar. You won’t find any bottles of alcohol here as the decor is rather minimalistic. But it works. Their alcohol are also so refined. We tried their Penrose Gibson and Eternal Gold. I liked both. It is one of Asia’s top 50 bars for a reason. Expect to pay more than usual.”

What got us hooked about Rakh at The Five was the ambiance—a killer aesthetic with a perfect mix of elegance and edginess. Our verdict? We’re big fans of their cocktail artistry since they’ve got this masterful touch, making each drink an experience.

What made us even happier is their playlist, which hits just the right notes, you know? Other patrons we’ve spoken with love it too, as it sets the mood without trying too hard.

We also got to chat with the mixologists, and these guys are such real pros. What’s more, they even gave us the DL on the best concoctions and even whipped up some off-menu specials at our request.

The prices are pushing it a bit, though. They’re kind of up there, which might make you think twice if you’re not in the mood to splurge.

Also, the parking situation gives us a bit of a headache. We can’t help but keep coming back, though, because of the fantastic cocktails—they’re totally worth the effort and splurge.

What hooked us with the Reka:Bar right off the bat was their cocktail game. I mean, we’ve tried our fair share of drinks around Kuala Lumpur, but this place has some magic happening behind that bar.

Now, what really got all of us nodding in agreement was how they push the creative envelope with their drinks. The staff caught our attention too, since they’re super chill and knowledgeable. 

On the downside, finding a spot on a busy night can be a drag. And if you’re on a tight budget, some of the prices might make you think twice.

Moreover, it can get pretty loud, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea (or, uh, a glass of cocktail). In spite of those bits, everyone in our gang agrees that the uniqueness of their concoctions and the overall atmosphere will keep us coming back.

Overall, Reka:Bar is just that kind of place where the good far outweighs any minor gripes. So yeah, if you’re hunting for a cocktail bar in KL that’ll surprise you in the best ways, this one should be high on your list.

We totally dug the vibe when we dropped in at Suzie Wong for some cocktails. As for what we love the most, it has to be the mixologists’ magic—their cocktails are not just another drink; they’re like a journey in a glass. 

What got us chatting even more was the dinner show, since it’s not every day you get to munch on some seriously tasty bites while performers do their thing. It left us all pretty amazed, by the way.

We must note, however, that the place can get packed – like rubbing-shoulders-with-strangers kind of packed. If you’re not big on crowds, that might kill your buzz.

Also, some folks we have spoken with found the prices a tad steep for drinks. However, we think the whole experience justifies the extra ringgit.

So, yeah, if you’re up for a unique bar experience that’s got flair and flavor, Susie Wong’s should be on your hit list. Just maybe snag a reservation or go early to beat the crowd – and bring extra cash to keep those cocktails coming!

Superb live music and delicious food

“I visited on a Saturday specifically for the weekend show, and I had a great time here. Even though I was alone, I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. The show was enjoyable, especially the burlesque dance performance, but my personal favorite was the live music. The singer was amazing and played some fantastic tunes. Canopy Lounge’s atmosphere is the first thing that grabbed our attention. It’s the kind of place that sets the mood just right for a laid-back evening, with a view over Kuala Lumpur that genuinely adds something special to the night.

We can tell the staff have their cocktail game down pat, providing a wide range of drinks that cater to all tastes, be it a classic or something new!

However, there’s a bit of a mixed feeling about the location. It’s in Kampung Baru, which is a cool spot, but it might be a bit of a journey for some (like some on our crew).

Also, the prices do stand out as being on the higher side. It’s not excessive, but you do feel it, especially if you’re planning to sample a wide range of cocktails. 

Most of us think the price is justified, though, considering the overall quality of the drinks, service, and vibe.

What’s keeping us hooked is how they nail the little things, like getting the volume of the music just right so you can enjoy your conversations without having to shout.

PS150 is a captivating spot that charms us with a memorable cocktail experience. Now, when we strutted into this joint, we were all kinds of hyped about how they were mixing up some killer cocktails.

What’s more interesting is they serve drinks that represent different eras, from pre-Prohibition to the modern day. We love the variety of flavors plus the exposure to cocktail evolution.

Its ambiance adds another layer to its allure, featuring vintage décor, which people love as it makes the place super cozy. Now, the location’s a winner too, as it’s tucked in City Center.

However, when it comes to prices, we’ve got to be real—it’s a bit of a pinch on the wallet. We’re talking premium prices, but then again, for the experience and the quality, we think it’s still worth it.

Another thing is that the bar tends to become overcrowded, especially on weekends. So, you must be prepared for possible crowds and longer wait times during peak hours.

TAP TAP Cocktail Club’s buzz around town was loud enough that we had to see what the fuss was all about, and they lived up to the hype. First off, their mixologists are absolute magicians.

They’ve got this knack for blending flavors in a way that’s just out there. We’re not just talking about your run-of-the-mill drinks; these creations are something else.

And speaking of drinks, TAP has this cool habit of switching things up based on what’s fresh and new, which definitely keeps people coming back. Several people in our crew couldn’t stop talking about the seasonal specials!

Now, the atmosphere is laid-back, with a kind of chill vibe that made us stay longer than planned. Plus, its location in Desa Sri Hartamas is perfect for kicking off the night or winding down.
