As someone who has lived in Kuala Lumpur for several years now, one of the things I genuinely fell in love with is the city’s booming brunch scene. I’ve seen a lot of foodie spots come and go, but there’s something about these amazing cafes (best cafe kl) and restaurants that never get old!

Personally, I see brunch not just as a meal but as a whole experience, and although many have tried, several have also failed. So to help you find the best brunch that offers amazing food, coffee and ambience, I’ve curated a list of my personal favourite spots in the city!

When it comes to providing top-notch Nyonya food in Kuala Lumpur, Limapulo: Baba Can Cook is definitely in the conversation. With its wide selection of authentic Peranakan dishes like Nyonya laksa and curry, it would be a disservice not to include it on this list!

All of the items from their menu have this homemade touch to them, courtesy of the restaurant’s chef who exudes pure passion and skill. One particular dish we love is their fragrant fried bee hon, which perfectly encapsulates the quality of their offerings.

What’s great about these dishes is that there’s no definitive time to enjoy them, so you can grab them at brunch! Plus, with its natural ingredients, you can start your day right and give your body the energy it needs for a day filled with activities.

Big Baba is another Nyonya gem that also doubles as an amazing brunch spot in Kuala Lumpur. The best thing about this restaurant is its authentic flavours, which can be attributed to how it was passed down from multiple generations.

Here, you can indulge in the cuisine’s classic dishes like ayam buah keluak, fiery sambal udang and more. Furthermore, the restaurant offers classic Nyonya sweets like sticky kuih lapis, which are cute tiny cakes that pack a lot of amazing flavours.

If you aren’t sure of what to get, however, but you’re sure that you want something flavourful, we highly recommend getting their pineapple prawn curry. If the distinct sweetness of the pineapple doesn’t captivate your tastebuds, the tender white meat of the prawns will!

You can also help yourself with one of their amazing local traditional desserts like bubur chacha, ice cendol and ice kacang!

But enough about its looks, as the real star here remains to be the Nyonya food. You can’t go wrong with anything from their selection, but it would be best to stick to their bestsellers like their chicken rendang, tamarind prawns and otak otak.

Pro tip:

You can cross the street and visit the Section 17 Neighbourhood Park to get a breath of fresh air after your brunch! Furthermore, you can also set up a picnic here if you have some leftovers that you know you still want to eat.

Guan’s

Guan’s is the perfect place to visit if you and your group can’t decide on where to eat, as it offers a wide array of brunch items that cater to different tastes. You can either go for vegetarian options like their Caesar salad and pasta or some good old pastries like croissants!

Furthermore, they also offer a wide array of local delicacies that are perfect for brunch. These include mee mamak, mee goreng, mee hon and of course, Malaysia’s national dish, nasi lemak.

Also, since this is indeed a kopitiam, you can pair whatever you’re having for brunch with one of their expertly crafted coffee! They offer both traditional and modern variations of this beverage so you won’t have to worry about not finding what’s suitable for your palate.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to get here is by riding the train and dropping off at the Kelana Jaya (KJ24) Tram Station. From there, Guan’s is only a 6-minute walk, so might as well get some exercise in before munching on your favourite brunch food!

If your idea of brunch mostly revolves around a cup of coffee, then Common Man Coffee Roasters should be on your radar! Whether you’re looking for brewed coffee or espresso-based drinks, this cafe will satisfy your daily caffeine fix.

They offer far more than just expertly made coffee drinks; they can also whip up various light meals from their kitchen. For instance, they offer a mean stack of pancakes that are as fluffy as this breakfast meal can get—plus, they offer amazing sauces with them too!

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for something more savoury, we highly recommend ordering their beef cheek eggs benedict! Ox cheeks are something I never thought would make for a great breakfast, but alas, I was surprised by how tender and delicious it was.

If you want to pair your cup of coffee with a dose of cuteness, we recommend stopping by the Purradise Cat Cafe before or after your brunch. It’s one of KL’s best cat cafes, allowing you to play with various munchkins, as you enjoy your coffee of choice,

Feeka Coffee Roasters

Feeka Coffee Roasters isn’t just one of the best brunch spots in KL, but it’s also among the most Instagrammable cafes in the city (instagrammable cafes in kl)! From its quaint facade to its modern and welcoming interior, everything about this cafe is photo-worthy.

It’s more than just a looker too, as it’s also known to serve some of the best quick bites, ranging from burgers to pasta, salads, sandwiches and more. They also offer some trendy items like avocado toast, which some say is the best breakfast item on their menu.

Of course, the biggest highlight here would be its selection of freshly brewed coffee. They offer just about every variation of this drink you could think of, from flat white to americano, iced latte, cold brew and anything in between.

PODGY Kurau offers its patrons a charming escape in the heart of Bangsar with its aesthetically pleasing interior, warm ambience and amazing food. It’s the definitive neighbourhood cafe, and it’s one that we’ve been to a couple of times now because of its distinct atmosphere.

One of our favourite things about this place is its abundance of all-day breakfast meals, which are sure to give you your much-needed protein to start the day. Some of their most beloved items from this category include scrambled eggs on brioche, waffles and breakfast quesadillas.

They’re also known for their wide array of sandwiches, ranging from avocado toasts to chicken burgers and our personal favourite, chicken satay! Who knew that one of Malaysia’s best street foods can be a great filling for a sandwich?

Pro tip:

One of the cheapest and fastest ways to get to PODGY via commute is by riding the bus and dropping off at the KL1914 Lucky Garden Bus Stop. From there, you only have to walk a couple of minutes to reach the cafe.

The Hungry Tapir is one of Kuala Lumpur’s best vegetarian restaurants! It offers a wide array of plant-based light meals that even carnivores will love just because of how flavourful they are—now that’s an impressive feat!

What’s great about this particular restaurant is how closely they replicate meat-based dishes without actually using meat. For instance, their amazing meatballs feature a meaty taste along with a crumbly texture like the real thing.

We also have a feeling that your kids will love this place, as they offer classics like mac and cheese and fried chicken, the latter of which is actually made out of mushrooms.

Stop by Petaling Street Market before or after your brunch in The Hungry Tapir! Here, you’ll find amazing deals on local products, fresh produce and superb cheap eats.

Pokok KL is hands down one of the most beautiful cafes in Kuala Lumpur! It features floor-to-ceiling glass windows, allowing its diners to enjoy natural sunlight coming in as well as panoramic views of the city streets.

Of course, the place is also beloved for its wide array of brunch items ranging from pastries to eggs benedict and more. If you want our advice, however, we highly recommend trying out their pies, as they’re immaculate.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for something local, you can never go wrong with ordering nasi lemak. It features everything you need for a hearty breakfast from fragrant rice to fried chicken, egg and more!

Pro tip:

Ride the bus if you want a cheap hassle-free commute! Take the one that stops by PJ246 Mahsa Avenue because this bus stop is directly right by Pokok KL.

They also offer a wide array of matcha-based snacks but our personal favourite is the mini matcha burnt cheesecake, which is exactly what it sounds like. There’s just something about the combination of the distinct matcha flavour and the soft cheesecake that’s pure bliss!

You should also consider this cafe if you’re looking for Instagrammable spots in the city, as the interior is as hip as coffee houses come. It features an all-white interior, which makes their matcha drinks pop out even more!

Visit their online store to check out their amazing selection of fine matcha powder. This way, you can cook up your own concoctions at home!

Kopenhagen Coffee Mont Kiara

Kopenhagen Coffee is a love letter to those who love Scandinavian cuisine. It’s here where you’ll find a plethora of open-faced sandwiches that are overloaded with some flavourful fresh ingredients.

Among their staples, however, our favourite has got to be the beef cheddar egg bagel. The beef strips featured in this dish are super tender and they’re perfectly complemented by the cheddar cheese and the egg, especially the yolk!

It’s also a true coffee connoisseur’s paradise, as it features a wide selection of coffee drinks that feature meticulously sourced beans. From long black to americano, flat white and more, this cafe has them all!

Pro tip:

You can also check out their branch at Kapas if their location at Mont Kiara doesn’t coincide with the rest of your itinerary.

PULP is a hidden gem in KL that’s beloved by local foodies to the point where some people insist on gatekeeping it! Not me though, as I believe that this spot deserves all the flowers, as it’s a fantastic brunch spot that offers specialty coffee and amazing food.

Starting with their food, we love their wide selection of Western classics such as fried chicken, tacos, burgers and more. As for their coffee, you can expect the usual variations such as lattes, espressos, cappuccinos—the works.

We also love the overall laid-back vibe that it has going on, making it the perfect destination for winding down with your loved ones. It also features a distinct rustic charm that you’re probably familiar with if you’ve been around coffee shops for a long.

Merchant’s Lane

Merchant’s Lane is one of the most iconic restaurants in Kuala Lumpur in general, so we had to include it on this list. Just be sure to get there as early as the doors open because it never runs out of visitors and for several good reasons.

For starters, they feature a unique menu that puts an Asian twist on the classic brunch items you know and love. A perfect example of this is their South China Sea dish, which is essentially a poached egg served alongside grilled salmon, salsa and hash.

Pro tip:

Merchant’s Lane is located near Chinatown, so consider exploring the area after your visit to this restaurant. Here, you can enjoy shopping, street food, and the vibrant atmosphere.
