There aren’t a lot of things as an adult that would make you feel like a kid again, but I can assure you that visiting Sugar and I is one of them. As soon as I entered its doors, I immediately felt joy seep through my veins when I saw their freshly baked treats behind their glass counter.

Now this may be because of my aforementioned insatiable sweet tooth but when you see these glistening pastries arranged neatly, you’ll get it. It’s always an exciting experience to look at them from outside the glass and decide which one to get, which in this case is much harder.

This is because their selection is quite varied and every single one of them looks amazing. From the stuffed “bombos” to the Japanese cream puffs, these freshly baked goodies will make your mouth water in an instant!

Pro tip:

If you’re visiting with a friend, we highly recommend getting their Happiness Combo Set, which consists of drinks, bombolonis and creampuffs—now that’s a good deal!

If you and your friends are looking for a place where you can catch up and take Instaworthy photos of one another, then Souka Bakeshop should be on your itinerary. It’s not your run-of-the-mill bakery shop, as it’s more like a quaint cafe that features a variety of pastries.

The main star of this store is hands-down the selection of vintage cakes, which come in different flavours, most notably, Biscoff chocolate. Meanwhile, if you’re craving something super chocolatey that will satisfy your sweet tooth, we recommend their chocolate fudge cake.

If you aren’t too fond of chocolate cakes, don’t worry because they also have a plethora of vanilla and nut-based flavours. They have your proven and tested red velvet cake as well as new flavours such as orange butter and pandan coconut gula melaka.

Kobo Bakery is one of Subang Jaya’s best hidden gems, and bread lovers should definitely give it some notice the next time they’re in the city! One of the things we love about this place is their commitment to using natural yeast for the fermentation of their bread.

Now we’re no bread experts, but we know that it’s a tedious process! It’s well worth the hassle though, as it results in a much more flavourful loaf of bread.

What’s more impressive is that they’re able to maintain a reasonable price for their bread, most especially their sourdough! But don’t stop there because they also offer a variety of cakes and pastries that are all masterfully crafted as well.

Pro tip:

If you know someone who’s vegan, consider gifting them a cake on their birthday from this bakery! They offer vegan cakes that incorporate fresh fruits like mangoes and coconut.

If you’re someone like me who can’t go on a day without munching on something sweet, then Fantaxy Bakery should be right up your alley! It’s home to many pastries and cakes that all feature delightful flavours and textures.

You’ll find just about everything you can expect to see in a bakery being offered here, from classic buns and baguettes to sweet cakes and rolls. As for my fellow sweet-toothed people out there, you have to try the chocolate doughnut or the chocolate Oreo cream bun.

If you’re overwhelmed by the sweets, however, we recommend sticking with the classics like cheese sticks and sausage buns.

Pro tip:

Consider contacting them if you know someone who’s celebrating their birthday soon! They offer personalised cakes that can take the form of just about anything from cars to princesses, cartoon characters and more.

Good Ground Bakery is one of those places that I can honestly consider a pastry lover’s paradise. It’s a hidden gem that will make you feel like a kid in a candy store with its wide selection of baked goodies, from flaky croissants to decadent scones, buttery tarts and more.

One of their best offerings is the cookie croissant, which is exactly what it sounds like! It’s a flakey croissant topped with a gooey chocolate chip cookie, and the best part is that you won’t feel guilty after eating it since the bakery uses fresh and high-quality ingredients!

They also offer some unique items from their menu that we were surprised to see for the first time, most notably the smoked salmon quiche. If you were to tell me back then that salmon would make for a great pie filling, I would’ve probably laughed!

Pro tip:

The best way to get here via commute is to ride the bus and drop off at the SJ51 Balai Bomba SS17 bus station. From there, you only have to walk down the block to reach Good Ground Bakery!

It offers far more than just looks too, as it offers a wide range of pastries that range from savoury bites to sweet delights! For starters, you can get anything you’d expect from a patisserie such as Pain Au Chocolat, croissants, brownies and cookies.

Pro tip:

If you’re looking for something that could fill your tummy and satisfy your tastebuds at the same time, we recommend ordering their fantastic turkey ham toastie with side salad!

When it comes to offering the best cakes in Subang Jaya, The Last Slice is the cream of the crop! We have a bunch of theories about its name, but the leading one is that you won’t be able to stop eating their cake until the very last slice—but I digress.

That Last Slice is an underrated gem that deserves all the spotlight because of its wonderful selection of cakes! These aren’t your typical flavours as well, as they offer ones like tres leches, vanilla bean pistachio, matcha and more.

Pro tip:

If your sweet tooth is telling you to try something cold, we recommend heading over to the next-door ice cream shop, Chill U Up, after buying one of That Last Slice’s decadent cakes.
